MESSENGER StonesBoulder Opals - Science & LegendWhen scientists talk about Boulder Opals, they explain that in areas of Australia some long, long time ago weather conditions trans-formed silica into liquid. That silica liquid ran down through the soil settling in the crevasses beneath the earth's surface. After the silica liquid became settled in those crevasses, the molecules started evolving. Though scientists have yet to explain conclusively how, thousands of years later we've called them Boulder Opals. Archives |
