THINK - December 12

December 12

In the South, I don’t know if it’s everywhere, if someone has the “rudeness” to ask if you like something that you’ve obviously not made a positive comment about, you’re allowed to comfortably lie telling the truth with
meaning:

“It’s different.”
(Honey, believe me, “different” is a compliment, that’s just plain bad.)

“It looks like you.”
(You have never had any taste except what’s in your mouth.)

“You might never find another one like that.”
(They wouldn’t make another one of those on a bet.)

“I’ve always enjoyed shrimp.”
(I was unaware you could actually cook shrimp badly, well, surprise honey, you can.)

I learned quickly that words could mean different things to different people. I recognized that it would better pay for me to know what people were really thinking.

You can actually tell the truth, never lie by deftly picking and choosing your words. That’s
fascinating.

    About Janet:

Janet DeLong, PhD, is a philosophical writer.  She'd tell you that is by default, we know it's by design.  While her perceptions are not always comfortable, they are always
    intriguing.
